Icon will stay in Saudi Pro League until 2027, when he’s 42

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly nearing a two-year contract extension with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, just days before his existing deal was set to expire.

The 40-year-old Portugal captain’s potential decision to stay in Saudi Arabia marks a significant shift from his previous social media post, where he declared “the chapter is over” following Al-Nassr’s final Saudi Pro League game of the season.

Despite his comments, reports indicate that Ronaldo is now finalising the terms of a new agreement that will see him remain with the club until at least 2027.

Ronaldo’s stay at Al-Nassr seemed uncertain when FIFA president Gianni Infantino raised the possibility of him joining a team involved in the upcoming Club World Cup.

However, the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus star declined offers to participate in the tournament, citing his desire to continue his career in Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo has enjoyed significant success with Al-Nassr since joining the club in January 2023, scoring 99 goals in 111 appearances and winning his second consecutive Saudi Pro League’s Golden Boot last season. He netted 35 goals in 41 matches across all competitions.

Alongside his footballing success, Ronaldo is also considering future sports investments in the region, which could further solidify his commitment to Saudi Arabia.

Earlier this week, Al-Nassr parted ways with Italian manager Stefano Pioli after a season that saw the club finish third in the league, 13 points behind champions Al-Ittihad.

With the departure of the coach, attention now shifts to the extension of Ronaldo’s contract, which could set the tone for the club’s future ambitions both on and off the pitch.
