The iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has reopened its doors to the public for the first time in five years. The landmark Parisian monument has dominated the city’s skyline for ages. The tall spire suffered from a devastating fire outbreak in April 2019. It ended up damaging the monument’s roof and upper walls. The main building was not affected during the accident. Since then, a restoration project has been underway in an attempt to save the 860-year-old landmark. The reopening ceremony for the monument was held on December 7, marking a significant moment in Paris’ cultural history. The ceremony was attended by several world leaders and dignitaries. As everyone celebrates the successful reconstruction of this beloved monument, let’s take a look at a detailed guide on how one can visit the historic cathedral. Continue reading to find out more.

How to get tickets for Notre Dame?

Tickets to the iconic Notre Dame are free. They can be availed through the cathedral’s official website. It is advised that you book them in advance to avoid trouble. As per the site, reservations are available for up to two days in advance. The first slots for visits will go online starting December 9. A visit to the cathedral’s treasury, however, will cost you €10.

How to reach Notre Dame?

Notre Dame is located in the heart of Paris which makes it easier to navigate your way to the monument without any hiccups. The cathedral is just a five-minute walk away from the Cite metro station. You must book your tickets to Paris well in advance and it is advised to avoid travel during the holiday season to avoid massive crowds.

Will there be any special events for Notre Dame’s reopening?

Several reopening events will be organised by Notre Dame between December 8 and December 15. A private inauguration will be held this week while giant screens will also be set up around the church for the public to watch those ceremonies live.

Things to see in Notre Dame:

Notre Dame’s grand arched doorways are a sight to behold. They are visible on the cathedral’s entry that will guide you to a ‘symbolic path’. This pathway represents an ancient route that pilgrims used since the Middle Ages. There are also several paintings and art figures for history buffs to explore.

When visiting ensure you follow the local rules and regulations as Notre Dame is a place of religious significance.
