Prince Harry, who is known to be passionate about his charity work in different parts of the world, suffered a big loss ahead of the festive season.

The Duke of Sussex, who founded charity, Sentebale, in 2006 alongside with Prince Seeiso, in Lesotho had to bid farewell to a key team player in the operations of the valued charity.

The CEO of the organisation Richard Miller, stepped down from his position after a tenure of five years. The charity, which is focussed on providing support to children and young people affected by HIV/AIDS, will now be managed by a Johannesburg-based development leader, Carmel Gaillard.

Harry and Seeiso, who is the brother of the Lesotho’s King Letsie III, shared the official message on the charity’s website, announcing the “strategic shifts” in the organisation.

“Sentebale has greatly benefited from Richard’s extensive expertise in international development,” the royals said in the message.

“We are deeply grateful for his compassionate leadership and unwavering commitment to empowering children, young people, and their communities across Southern Africa.”

They continued, “Leading into our 20th anniversary, our organisation will be locally led, aligning with the global movement towards fostering greater local agency and ownership. This shift reflects our continued commitment to being guided by voices from within the region we serve.”

Expressing their gratitude to the London-based Miller, they said, “We sincerely thank Richard for his pivotal role in steering our organisation toward this important evolution.”

Meanwhile, Miller, who will officially step down from his role in January 2025, shared that the “leadership change will clearly demonstrate Sentebale’s relevance as a leading development actor.”

He added that he “welcomes” this change and believes it is an “exciting way forward”.
