Prince Harry has been warned about the “consequences” of his £38 million privacy case against the Daily Mail.

Harry has been fighting the Associated Newspaper group since 2022 and alleges that they used unlawful methods to gather information for their articles.

The Duke of Sussex is one of the seven high-profile figures taking the newspaper group to court. Others include Sir Elton John, the actress Sadie Frost and more.

As the case is soon to go to trial in January, Harry and the others have been warned by the judge over the substantial costs they will have to pay if they lose the case.

Judges David Cook and Justice Nicklin said the estimated £38.8 million costs of the case were “clearly outside the range of the reasonable”.

They added: “It is imperative that the parties and in particular the individual claimants have the clearest possible understanding as to the consequences of the way in which this litigation is being conducted…Substantial costs have already been incurred and the parties will soon be incurring more substantial costs in preparation for the trial next year.”

This comes as Harry’s request for his security to be upgraded in the U.K. has been accepted for a review by the Home Office. After losing his legal battle against the office, Harry wrote directly to the secretary, Shabana Mahmood, requesting a full security risk assessment.
