Miley Cyrus admits winning a Grammy was never her priority: Here’s why

Miley Cyrus has recently shared her honest thoughts on winning her first Grammy award last year.

The Something Beautiful crooner reflected on her Grammy wins in an exclusive interview with CBS Sunday Morning.

“I have spent a lot of time because I haven’t always been nominated and I haven’t always taken home an award,” said the 32-year-old.

Miley noted that the award is like “someone validating that you have kind of mastered your craft or at least that’s what it felt like”.

“A lot of records that I have made, I think I may have had expectation, which is why it hurt really bad when it didn’t come to this fruition,” continued The Last Song actress.

The Hannah Montana star explained that it allowed her “to accept the fact that, somewhere, it mattered and I got to be excited for that moment,” while she gave reference of her first Grammy win in 2024.

However, Miley opened up that she found joy in creating music because the motivation is not the Grammy, it’s “always storytelling”.

“I enjoy making music whether anyone hears it or not. I have hundreds of songs that I have made that nobody needs to or will ever maybe hear,” mentioned the singer turned actress.

But Miley noted, “It’s the joy of the creation.”

Therefore, the singer pointed out that she was worried “about getting a grammy because I didn’t want it to distract me or detour me because I never expected to get one”.

Miley further said, “I never expected Flowers to really be successful but when the song becomes something bigger than myself, it’s kind of a legacy record.”

“The celebration you see in the music video and at the Grammys, that’s as honest as it could be,” she concluded.
